The Boat Club

An historic 500 year old building situated on the banks of the River Wear, with panoramic views of the ancient City of Durham and the medieval Elvet Bridge, plays host to a busy bar, café, restaurant and club.

Project overview: The Boat Club (formerly The Boat House), was re-opened in 2014 using a revised brand design based around the original, with colour and typeface revisions, re-drawn elements and the addtion of a worn crackle effect. As the business was already established when the client engaged Happyleaves to work with them, it was decided that image and branding should remain close to the original.

The mobile responsive website and menu/advert set for The Boat Club is all new and the branding was vastly developed to include a worn element that reflects the historic riverside location within the City of Durham. Vintage flora and wildlife site alongside a mottled backdrop with olde-worlde typewriter typeface, to give a unique look that makes The Boat Club stand out from the more familiar bright lights and clean type used for many evening bars and clubs.

An email marketing template was designed to mimic the same design themes within the website.

Design tasks: brand and logomark refresh, colour palette and typeography selection, mobile responsive website, editable email marketing template, advert, signage and menu set design.
